Veteran's Weekend Fatality

Post by RichB » Mon Nov 13, 2006 5:50 pm

This is unconfirmed but I saw on another board where it was reported that a quad rider wrecked and died while being medevac'd or just after landing at the hospital Friday night.

Allegedly the guy was under the influence, racing someone else in/around a camping area, and it was after dark. If this is all true I just have 1 word:

Unreal.

If so, this will be the 3rd in a very short time, right?

Not a good way to start the season and it gets harder hearing this each time.

Yep, far as I've heard this is the 3rd this year. Also, more speculation is this incident may have involved a worm or kiddie track berm. If that's true it wouldn't be the 1st time people have been killed by them.

Very sad.

or worse yet, 3 fatalities in the past 6 or 8 weeks! Those are some ugly numbers for an area as small at Dumont!

Did this all start with national plubicity of Robbie Gordon jumping and other stunts at Dumont?
Not saying the sport isn't about that, perhaps some are attempting tricks beyond their skills because Gordon make it look easy in a 700 hp perfectly set up state of the art sandcar.

You can't regulate stupidity or common sense.

Here's a story about the the latest young man to lose his life while at the dunes:

Yeah, it's missing the tail end... and in the part that says..... "hrualk999h871645gfbgse.com". <--That ".com" part is important, I've heard.

Actually I thought he only had done "risky" stuff in one of his desert racers equiped with paddles. That's the only pictures I've seen of him. If he really IS doing those things I have heard he does in a regular sand car, he would be a complete fool. IMNSHO.

Fox Sports did 2 big TV pieces on him at Dumont.
Some of the regular duners said he was negligent in his operation of his sand vehicles.
No spotters, ect.

I even used the search function on that site for "Dumont" and "dunes" and still came up empty.

Ooops, must've cut and pasted wrong....try this:

http://www.thespectrum.com/apps/pbcs.dl ... 2945204658

Glen, as you will see they never mentioned Dumont in the story, that's why your search didn't find anything.

p.s. Some of the guys that work at my facility were former co-workers of him. They all trekked up to Cedar City, UT earlier this week for the viewing.

Crash,

So are you authorized to decide who posts what on this board now? I'm a little confused about your last post.

I think I understand YOU don't care to read about the young man that was killed out at Dumont but obviously others do (or else they wouldn't have replied to the thread saying they couldn't get to the article).

I don't undertand why you would post something like that. I haven't looked yet but did you post on the Holly Gorrell thread "OK, It's a dead gal. Next".

SORRY. TOTALLY SORRY. Thought it was going to be a story about what happened, not his obituary. I saw the Obituary and didn't read it. Thought the link was wrong again. AGAIN TOTALLY SORRY. MEANT NO DISRESPECT OR ANYTHING.

I guess this is why I thought it would be a story, not an obituary. SO SORRY.

From the looks of his OBITUARY he doesn't look to have been a stupid individual. On the contrary. Looks like he was a pretty smart guy.

Must have made an error in judgement. We're ALL guilty of THAT from time to time.
