The creek at Dumont

Post by hershman3 » Thu Mar 29, 2007 10:16 am

Can the creek be accessed up the river somewhere after you're at the dunes? Is it legal to do so? I thought it would be nice to do with the kids.

There are several places where a very fun trail crosses that creek several times (the Sperry Wash run) and there are other spots along the creek (actually it's the Amargosa River) where lots of families stop to let their kids take a dip to cool off.

You'll need dirt tires, so leave the paddles at camp and have a great time! :)

Sounds wonderful. Do I follow the road before I go over the creek or access it from the northwest side of the dunes?

You'll actually pass the opening to the Sperry Wash trail as you are entering Dumont. It's that wooden "ranch sign" off to the left just before you cross the Amargosa.

The entrance road is closed to OHVs but there is OHV access along the road.

Bring a lunch and lots of water... time flies when you're on that trail.

We drive in the water from time to time.
Some ignitions are grouchy when they get wet, so hold that thought.
