Standing a Quad up????

Post by GlamisLovingFool »

Obviously it is ok to stand a quad on its end for transporting in the bed of a truck or wherever, but my question is....... Can a quad be stored in the upright (on its butt) position for a long period of time(say the offseason)? If so is there anything I need to do such as drain the fuel tank and oil? Can the quad be stored upright with the fluids still in?

I bought a third quad and have less room now and would like to stand them all up for storage provided that it wont damage them or cause any other issues.

Any help is appreciated.

I used to store mine that way and never had a problem. However, I did drain the fuel from the tank and the carb bowl so it wouldn't turn into sludge - not only that, the fuel gets old and separates. You should do that no matter what position you store them in if you're not going to use them for a while.

With fresh fuel, they always started right up next season because the carbs were as clean as when I put them away for the summer..

Another reason to drain the carb bowl whether you are standing them up for storage or transport is that on some quads the fuel from the bowl will run out the carb intake and wash the oil out of your air filter.

You may also want to drain your coolant overflow botttle if it's design lends itself to leaking when vertical.
I've also heard that batteries should be removed to.
