Predator 500 is a Polaris (?)

Post by Poiks » Mon Jul 01, 2002 2:41 pm

I found a website, in Spanish, that indicates the Predator 500 (http://www.predator500.com) is a Polaris. Here's the English translation of the story from http://elmundomotor.elmundo.es/elmundom ... 02531.html; note that the web transation tool leaves something to be desired!

quote:SPORTS QUAD
Polaris advances the Predator 500

Already there are known more details of the model Predator 500, one of the sports quads most expected from Polaris, which will come to Spain at the end of this year.

ELMUNDOMOTOR

This model stands out for his(its, her) technical characteristics as an engine of 499 cc., a few new suspensions and an aggressive and innovative aspect. One possesses(relies on) a manual gearbox, of five speeds and his(its, her) dimensions and heights they will allow a suitable managing, always depending on the certain use. Polaris has developed, for this reason, three versions (basic, competition and for dunes) to which specific accessories have joined for every application.
The presentation to the importers of the American mark will take place(be produced) next month of July in the Polaris's international Convention, which will take place in Orlando. His(its) arrival to the American market is foreseen for the next month of August, whereas passionate(carried away) of the quad in Spain they will have to expect a few months more, since there are defined either the date of marketing nor either the available units in our country.

Not that I would buy one but auto-matic? What kind of sport quad could compete with a four stroke or two stroke, if its got an auto-matic? Just wondering? Kinda looks heavy also,......

Kinda funny, the Predator, new Z400, and the new Kawa, all look like the Raptor, wonder why they all seem to copy the look of the Raptor, but can't seem to match the motor size?????? Or better yet make a bigger, faster, bike.... holy cow, what the heck are these people paid for. Just wondering?

Great to see another quad with a decent sized engine! When will we see another 2 stroke worth looking at. Havn't seen anything close to a Banshee in the sand!

RJ: The two-stroke engine is on it's last legs. With the EPA taking an interest in anything above 50cc's, four strokes are going to fill the void left behind as testing stops on the two-stroke. I highly doubt you'll see any manufacturer unveiling a new two-stroke anything. Four-strokes are the future, like it or not.

Check out http://www.off-road.com/atv/ if you want to see how some other quads did against the Predator 500 test machine at the Oregon Dunes. Sounds pretty good, but again this is a magazine article.

Every day spent at the dunes adds two days to your life! Dune every other day and live forever!!!

JoeRamsey,
Flawed logic. Take the Cannondale. 1 less intake valve, 228 less CC's, and 2 fewer carbs, but itll smoke the Raptor all day long. So just because the Predator is at 500cc doesnt make it a contender..

The Dale is 432cc....
The Predator will be a great quad. Better in some area's then the Dale and vice versa. The no bump steer tecnology of the Predator is awsome.. In the end we all benefit from yet another sport quad ....
