Looking good!

Seems like you have some time on your hands.

(Frankly, I think that this board would have a lot more traffic if it were easy to post pic's. Maybe this is by design due to cost issues, but requireing the pictures to be hosted by another website before posting them here is not at all user friendly. .02)

Woo Hoo...2.3!

Can't say I'm a big fan of Esslinger but I am a big fan of the 2.3's!

Probably the BEST budget motor out there IMHO. Super reliable, real easy to get running with the stock injection, takes abuse like nothing else, and sips gas like a little old lady with a glass of lemonade!

I'm hoping this is one of those "the jack stands were removed for the clarity of the photo" things. It always scares me when I see a car up on a floor jack (especially with a loose spacer block like this), with a wheel off, with no apparent blocks to keep the car from rolling, and no jack stands under it. A cousin of mine was crushed to death under a car that fell off a jack.

So i got the car rolling again.

Image

Image

but i have another problem. who ever it was that had the car before me and did the swingaxel to irs conversion welded in the pasanger side mount at the wrong angle . so i have to cut it out and start over.

conversion jig.

My gussets also showed up .

Image

Image

so i got one of the old brackets cut out. befor i cut it out i put the jig up to se how off it was. It wasn't even close nowonder why i always had problems with that side of the car.

Nice Post! - Hey, way back in your early photos, it looks like you were running 3x3s with torsion and bilstein 6100s. How did this work for you? I am currently building my first baja, a 69 with similar rear suspension. I am currently installing 3x3s and was planning on keeping the torsion with a single shock setup similar to your photos (coil overs aren't in my buduget right now). What valving did you have in the bilsteins and was it enough to keep you from bottoming out? What torsion bars were you running?

Thanks for your help with this. There isn't much of a baja community to draw from in Montana!

So i have total changed directions with this car and cut it up
Ok so I desided to re build my baja I never liked the cage in the old car so I cut it all out

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-08-20

I had been looking at building a thing because I really like my other car which is a 4 seater but It needed more room. But things are hard to find and not cheap.

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-03-24

I had saw a 4 door bug at the Irvin classic a couple years back and I thought it was the coolest thing to build a baja out of.

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-08-18

I just happened to have another baja bug shell sitting around so I figured why not build a 4 door baja loots of people have talked about it so I decided to dive right in head first.

First my concept drawing.

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-08-18

Step 1. Cut your car in half

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-10-19

Step2. Cut another car in half

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-10-19

Step3. Weld the two halfs together.( this is where my friends thought I was in sane)

Image

By kbwakesk8, shot with T639 at 2009-10-12

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-10-12

Step 4. Cut the dash and roof off the back half then line up the back half of bug 1 to the contraption.

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-10-19

Image

By kbwakesk8, shot with T639 at 2009-10-19

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2009-10-19

This is where the car sits right now I am thinking of keeping the roof to keep it looking more like a bug.

If it looks bad I can always just cut it off.

I’m always open for ideas and pointers.

I did more work on the car The rain channels I cut off the door jaim and welded up the rear half of the body. The rear door hinge area needed to be beefed up so boxed it all in started on the roof.

and my other car
I don’t post much on this site but I enjoy seeing all the sheet metal work you guys do it takes a lot of talent to visualize what you want and to get it there.

I wile back I had posted pictures of this car

By kbwakesk8, shot with SV-AV25 at 2007-05-17

I was playing around with building a volks rod.

Around the beginning of oct my friend and I decided to build a baja from all my spare parts for thanksgiveing so we did.

Started by cutting off the roof.

Image

By kbwakesk8, shot with i533 at 2008-05-05

Then I took the car down to the pan so I could convert the beam to linkpin.

Image

By kbwakesk8, shot with i533 at 2008-04-30

Image

By kbwakesk8, shot with i533 at 2008-04-30

You can see my other car in this pic.

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2008-04-30

My friends clowning around in the body

Image

By kbwakesk8 at 2008-10-09

So for the nuts and bolts of this car.

3x3 rear arms 4 wheel disc brakes. Cut and turned linkpin beam with rack and pinion and biger shock towers. 002 bus trans and cv’s 4 seats and a full roll cage.

So the fun starts and only a month and a half of weekends to go it in.
