Posted in the Salt Lake Tribune 4/29/2005

"As someone who loves to visit our wilderness-quality public lands, I think Joe Baird was too soft on the effects of off-road vehicles in his article “Wheels vs. Wilderness” (Tribune, April 24).
Ecological protection and restoration are the highest and best use of our public lands, especially those with wilderness characteristics. ORVs are destructive to public land and amount to vandalism as far as I'm concerned.
The Bureau of Land Management has been derelict in its responsibility to manage the use of ORVs for many years, and the results show in the form of erosion, scars on the land, degraded wildlife habitat, and the loss of opportunity for quiet and solitude for non-motorized users of the land.
I call on the BLM to ban the use of ORVs or at least restrict their use to very limited sacrifice zones so that our public lands can recover."

What a wiener :x This is what we are up against in UTAH.

Wonder where Bob thinks the money comes from to maintain those PUBLIC lands! Wonder if Bob will care when there is no money to support search and rescue when Bob and his greenie friends get stuck out in the back country and will they refuse help when rescuers use OHVs to rescue them....

Please help us

If "pro" means yes, and "con" means no, is Congress the opposite of Progress?
