Who's going to Saint Anthony this summer? We have 12 spots reserved at the Desert Oasis from July 27th-August 5th. I can't wait!

St Anthony @ the Oasis from June 15th to the 25th...

I hope to get in another trip later in SA's "Season" maybe in Early September.

The week we are going we will return one full week before the 4th of July weekend.

Anyone interested in going this early to SA let me know, we'll probably have a small group.

Remember, no mater what time of the year you go from May to Sept... it could be Hot as or cold as you have never dreamed. Rain expect it on a dune ride... In the afternoon

We've gone:
May 96 lots of rain--WET!
June 97 mild and hot
1998 July 4th mild and nice
1999 Mid June nice weather/warm and mild with Thunder storms late in day [mild wind daily]
2000 mid July Very warm
2001 Memorial Day HOT
2002 Nice 4th of July
2003 Nice 4th of July
2004 Twice
May Thunderstorms but mild
and July mild but 60 mph winds one day
2005 late May thunder storms/Icy cold

We've seen it all except snow, and I sware, it snowed last year on a ride....

Too fun!

We are bringing some first timers this year!

Our first trip was last year and dispite a rather scary trip there (20 car pileup with 5 deaths, highway closed for 4 hours, and a gust of wind that almost flipped me in Nevada) it was worth it! Hopefully we can catch eachother on our last day. I'll try to leave some smooth sand for ya.....might be tough though :D

Obsessed. We willl be taking a trip to SA that same time period. At this point no one I know is going during this time period. It would be nice to hook up with some people there. We have quads and a 4-seat Alumicraft car. I've been a duner for close to 38 years :x. I'd be duning with the wife and daughter. Duning on the edge of madness is not their cup of tea. A good clip works for them. Is your group family's with kids. Don't mean to be nosey, just wondering if we would fit in.

No worries...
You'd fit in...
Mark and Joanna's [they have kids boy 15 & girl 18 I do not know if they are going....] 4 seater Wicked rail.
Cathy and I dune at a good clip [you know, we men always think we are going faster & harder than we really are   ]
Cathy says: "We dune at a good clip... not too close to the edge, but we can see it..."
We are very cautious… [I hear some say “Right-right”]
We both have 2 seat mid-engine rails.

St. Anthony’s dunes are just faster than the Glamis dunes.
They can be technical, however, they are less technical than Glamis.

Our Typical day at St Anthony--
Wake whenever [hey it’s a vacation, not a marathon] check oil, fuel and ready for the day. Pack lunch…
Go for morning ride say 10am or so… dune some days dune all the way to Devils Dune. We have lunch [or at least lots of snax] in dunes, and take numerous hydration breaks.
Mike [RX4insandity] has an Alumacraft Rail also, and he’s trying to fit it in his schuedle to make this trip.
Mike’s wife, Jan, likes to take breaks quite often, so we dune to all the duners needs. My rail, the built to the edge VW that it is, needs cool down breaks pretty often, so Jan’s need to stop for a while works out great. Cathy may skip a run some mornings, Jan may skip the whole day runs…
We usually get back to camp in the afternoon, relax a bit, if we feel like going for a quick run to Middle Bowl, we do, before dusk. The sun seems to set at 10pm at SA, so we never seem to go for a night cruise.

Anyway, with your rail, we’d only have four or five [for sure] in the group. Although, Jon [Crowley Off Road] may be going also at the same time with one or two others.
Also, my other dune friend Jeff may be going [Jeff & Amber] have a 4 seat Sand Buggy Supply. I’m not sure if they are going yet, they have a 24 year old son and a 12 year old son.

I will be calling next week to reserve a block of spaces. Anyone that wants to go is welcome, we do enjoy an adult beverage now and then… Mostly water for me… I have issues…  8)

Wow...

Looks like we'll be neighbors.

Are you going to the "Upper" Dry camp nearer the dunes or the lower dry camp nearer the office?

We'll be nearer to the dunes. We were there last year and like it 'cuz we can circle the wagons some. Where are you going to be? You know that there's a mobile dump service, right? And I hear they can deliver a drum of race fuel, too.

That upper area looks like da-place-2B...

Question- will a big diesel MH make it down that bumpy road?
[one in the group has a big MH]

I have only driven it in a rail with 18" of travel it seemed ok...
However, with my MH's -2" of bumpy travel I worry...

Thanks 4 the info,

Steve

I do not recall the road being that bad; we were a 32'WW pull trailer and older Lazy Dayz w/ a 28' enclosed, and it was no problem. We stopped at the fork and filled w/ water, and then went on down there. Certainly no worse than the washes.

Looks like we are going July 17-22, Desert Oasis, then heading over to the Oregon dunes for July 24-29. Going to be a hell of a dune trip.

Awesome...

How are you cutting across Oregon?

When we went from Florence to St Anthony we took the 126 east to the 242 then 20 to Bend. Then the 20 all the way to Ontairo on the Idaho/Oregon border... Spent night at Truck stop on the 84...

I couldn't decide between the 20 or the 26 east bound through Oregon.

Fuel wasn't an issue, but an extra 3 1/2 hours of drive was...

I think the interstate was like 200 miles further!

Either way, it's a trip of a lifetime.

The day/night of the drive accross Oregon, Cathy kept me awake late by asking every 5 minutes "When are we going to stop? When-when-when?"

Have fun, looks like we may see you there!

I will be there june 27th-july 7 with about 4 other mini buggies.

Coming from winchestor bay (the first 7 seven days of a 2.5 week trip) what are the options for crossing oregon. (IE. time, road conditions, miles) I will be 60 + feet long and have left myself 2.5 days to cross the state. No hurry its a vacation right......

Unfortunately the car wont be done. Long story that involves having to go to small claims to get back stolen funds. Car has been sitting for about 2 months, FINALLY tomorrow the project from hell will begin again. Ballistic-trux.com in Rocklin will be finishing the car. I had to cancel on SA this year, but the majority of our group is still going. If you are staying at the Oasis make sure you drop by and say hi to Karen (aka Bartender).

vwhijumper,
It's never good to hear about something like this, and I fear it's only a matter of time before I experience something the same [as it seems to be happening all the time, all over the place!]
If you'd like, tell your story in the Wide Open Sand Forum so that others can prevent a similar mistake. Some may relate, but all will appreciate!

Mike,

I better hold my tongue on details until after my court date which is in the middle of August. Needless to say it appears there are a lot of brilliant fabricators out there who see $$$$$ in the sand industry but can't run a business or keep their word to save their life. If you'd like to know more I would be willing to fill you in on what happened in private. I just dont want to shoot myself in the foot by bad mouthing someone in a public forum that I am currently suing.
