OK... My Cell Service is TOO Good at Glamis!
I just got my last cell bill.
I was at Glamis at Wash 14 from Nove 21 to the 27th.
During that time, I made or had 62 calls.
My new GSM Cingular phone works most everywhere in the dunes.
Problem is this, I just added up all the minutes from the last billing cycle. He-HE...
I know I am a talker...
BUT...
2,351 Minutes??!
The service is too good!
I want my crappy phone back, where I had no service in my drive way.
2,350 minutes?
that's 39 hours!
Holy Cow....
I guess I better change my plan to more/more/more minutes...
Steve

Steve, that's just plain nuts. At .19 cents a minute, that's a new set of paddle tires...****!! If my cell time goes over 300 minutes a month, I think I've talked too much

I have Verizon, and the coverage is poor along wash road. Most of the time you can't get a line out.
But if I set the phone to Analog and "system A" then I got 5 bars and it worked great.
Normally my calling plan covers all of the western states without roaming, but I don't know what will happen if I force the phone onto another system.
Verizon is only native on system B.
I guess I'll find out next month when the bill comes in. If nothing else, I'll call up VZW and try to get them to cover it since there is no workable service out there.
You think if enough of us complained they might add there system to that nice new cell tower behind the Glamiland Store?

You know, I don't get it BigRick. I used to have Cingular (like everyone else on this thread that says it so good), but I had very poor coverage along Gecko road (where I usually camp, near RR). So I switched to Verizon a couple years ago because people back then told me how good it (Verizon) was in Glamis. I still don't get coverage. I think it just depends on the day of the week

My wife didn't go out that weekend plus I took my employees on a team-builder activity the previous day so I was way behind in my email.azpyroguy wrote:Aww come on now... when you go duning the computers are supposed to stay at home... It's pretty sweet, when someone leaves voice mail in my office I get paged. I just promptly call them back and they think I was on the phone or down the hall when they called

Not to worry, It's the only time the laptop came with me. Sand is the usual focus the entire trip

Thanksgving at Gordons got both me AND my friend. He got a $60 bill for out of country calls. I guess he hit a Mexico tower
Then my wife asked ME who I was talking to in Hawii for 45 minutes.
My T-moble actually kicked ***** out there, and up in wash 12 and at olds. In Gordons the people I was camping with didn't get out so they borrowed MY phone to call relitives in Hawii. I'm VERY impressed with T-moble. My daughter has it too so if we get seperated out in the dunes one touch and were conected.
I'd have to say 39 hours though? Geez did you dune at all?

yep Steve,
Your either a very important man or you have a series of chicks on the side.. Or both !
In either case i suggest counsuling for your problem, And leave the cell off untill its REALLY needed. Like beer or pizza
Not meaning to kick you in the junk but you talk more than my girl does and that aint good....

I've run out of sick days, so I am calling in dead !

I dont know how many times I have wanted to toss my verizon service into the canal !!!. It doesnt work in the dunes, no matter how high the dune is it just doesnt work (OK maybe once in a while), but running a business and trying to take a couple of days off at the dunes and still have conversations with the crew is not happening with verizon !!!.
Big Rick, let us VZW 'ers know how that analog thing works out ! !.
By the way, verizon works good (for me anyway) all the way from San Diego to glamis. Once I get to Glamis -ZIPPPPPP !!.

I just talked to verizon about the extremely poor coverage in the North Dunes. They are not about to do anything about it, he said it is outsourced there by some rural provider and it is an analog cell. You need a tri mode phone. I just have a digital phone now.
I have heard that analog is being phased out in 2006 by the government, if that is true then thier provider will have to provide a digital signal there eventualy.
South Dunes 5 bars.
Deciding weather to switch or not.
