Napoleon Dynamite Movie - Dune Scene.

Post by azpyroguy »

This movie is about as stupid as they get.. but as I was sitting here watching it on Cinemax, I look up from the laptop, and hear a quad being ridden, and quickly notice they are at the dunes.. does not look like Glamis however.. but shows a Grandma riding what looks like one of those 700 Twin Kawasaki jumping a hill and wiping out and a VW rail sitting on the dune...

I highly do not reccomend getting this movie or renting it.. unless you really just want to see the dune scene.. but it is a MTV movie full of stupid pranks...

It's St. Anthony Idaho.

At the end of the credits they mention it....and the whole movie was apparently filmed in ID so that's a bit of a giveaway too :D

(FWIW I found it somewhat humerous but don't get why some people are so into it. My Sister for example can't get enough of that movie. I'd call it a generational thing but she's only 2 years younger than me and a few months older than my GF who didn't think it was even as funny as I thought it was...so I Guess it's not just age based :D)

I thought I reconized that countryside... but its been about 7-8 years since I spent time up in Pocatello/Idaho Falls working for Lockheed Martin.

I have that problem often. The worse the movie the harder time I have turning it off. Except for "The Core" that was just so bad I couldn't turn it off soon enough :D

The problem is the movies where the answer to "what's going to happen next" is - nothing. ;)

The first time I watched any of it, I thought it was just plain stupid. I haven't watched the whole thing from beginning to end, but my boys rented it when it came out on video, and now watch it whenever its on TV, so I'm always seeing bits an pieces.

I do have to say that I still think its a stupid movie, but it has just enugh of "that something" to keep me watching for a little longer each time. Who knows? Maybe one of these days I'll see the whole thing. :?

Oh.. and my wife just doesn't care for it at all. Not even a smile, let alone a giggle.

I got me one of those Vote for Pedro shirts and made the mistake of wearing it own to the Casino. "So Who's Pedro?" is what I ended up hearing ALL FREAKEN NIGHT!!!! :x

It's like a new cult movie. In 20 years even though it sucked it will be celebrated like it was the biggest movie ever... Or not, what ever. "Your mom likes that movie" " I'm gonna make me a case-a-dilla" Perfect geek things. Classic.

But YES Joe Dirt is still better.

Napoleon Dynamite is pretty stupid, but some of the dialogue from the movie just cracks me up.

"You know I'm training to be a cage fighter, Napoleon"

"You're just jealous cuz I've been online chatting with babes all day."

La-fawn-duh

And when the guy slams him against the lockers, and he kicks at him after he's long gone- too funny.

The amazing thing about the movie is it was filmed in Preston Idaho on a $30,000 budget. That probably covered about 15 minutes worth of shooting in Joe Dirt or any other Hollywood production.

Another funny sidenote- our pastor's son can impersonate Napoleon Dynamite like no other, I'm told. A few months ago he was in CA at an Angel's game (I think), and so many people thought he WAS Napoleon, he ended up signing about 10 autographs. I don't know if he was intentionally trying to pass himself off as ND or not, but I guess he just went along with it after awhile.

This movie falls into the likes of.....
"Dude, wheres my car"
"Strange Brew"
"Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure"
"The Princess Bride"
"Monty Pythons Holy Grail"
"Friday"
"Beavis and Butthead Do America"

and so forth and so on.....God Bless America :D

I'm thankfull for the seemingly "mindless" movies
that are so chock full of Inuendo and pop culture that some folks just dont get it. :P

oh yea....
"Harold and Kumer go to White Castle"
.....
........etc..etc...

I think im going to Blockbuster this weekend :!:

the first time I saw it I didn't like it, but since then I've grown to think it's hilarious. You have to watch it with the understanding that there is no story, just hilarious characters. The way Napoleon drinks Gatorade, for example, or asks Pedro if he takes his bicycle "off any mean jumps". Or eats Tater Tots out of his pocket in class. Or how the class bully smashes them in his pocket.

A lot of it is exaggerated examples of the kind of crap we really did (or went through) in high school.

Hard to believe that "Inego Montoya" (sp?) from the Princess Bride is on that new series "Criminal Minds"- he looks a lot different now.

That is a great movie though...

I have to agree, those are all great "bad" movies....but Princess Bride dosn't deserve to be lumped in with them. It's just a great movie all around.

But my all time favorite bad "bad" movie is still "The Favor The Watch and the Very Big Fish" (http://imdb.com/title/tt0101863/) To this day I regret ever seeing it in the listings and knowing that I'd HAVE to watch it....an hour and a half of my life I'll never have back that was absolutely wasted. And yet. I know that if I ever get the chance to watch it again I'll have to because it was just that bad :D And the fish really wasn't all that big either :(

Its called smaller cars, smaller motors/trannies/brakes/frames/etc
Our family towed a 16' trailer with a '57 ford wagon V-8 3 speed manual, most 1/2 ton trucks these days aren't as sturdy as this old beast.

A MEN. We used to go to the river in our 73 LTD Wagon that pulled our trailer just fine. In fact as far as towing goes I wish I would have bought a 69 El Camino instead of my 02 Dakota.

**** hope we didn't hijack this thread? Hmmm That van in Napoleon Dynamite would be a cool van for the dunes. Hight top to crash in and strong enough to pull a rail and quad out No Problem

Whether viewers find the movie funny or not, all I have to say is that after watching the movie I bought a time machine (including the crystals) off the internet. I've used it to go back just before the closure and have been enjoying the entire ISDRA ever since.

I'm just glad I have teenagers that give me the excuse to watch "stupid" movies. Never would have seen Harold and Kumar, Dude, Where's My Car or Road Trip, if it weren't for them!
