Please welcome our new little duner

Post by jhitesma »

On Monday at 2:40PM Amy and I welcomed our amazing new daughter Katelynn Elizabeth Hitesman to the world:

Image

She came in at 6lbs 5oz (almost the same as her daddy) and 18 3/4"

The birth didn't go anywhere near how we had planned. A week past the due date Amy's doctor encouraged us to induce delivery because of Amy's blood pressure. Unfortunately the BP issues only got worse in the hospital, and the medicine they put her on for it made her sick and left her confined to bed - all before the induction drugs managed to get labor started. Then a little after 2 on memorial day the baby's heart rate suddenly plunged from 145 down to 30. It came back up just as quick...but then dipped again. It did come back up again but at that point the risk was too high and we had to do an emergency c-section. Which Amy had really been hoping to avoid. But she went through it like a champ and both mom and baby came out healthy happy and are recovering quickly.

Image

Lots more photos up here: baby photos (PG-13 no gory birth shots but a few of mom and baby breastfeeding for the first time. No nipples showing but some bare chest so if that kind of thing offends you don't look. Amy is proud to be a mom and breastfeeding and encouraged me to share the shots with the world.)

Oh - and also like her dad when he was her age see seems to love being in the car. The last night/morning before leaving the hospital she was an inconsolable terror. But as soon as I put her bottom in the car seat she closed her mouth, smiled, stretched and sat contentedly for the entire ride home! Guess I will have to get the manx finished and add a rear seat that can safely hold a carseat now ;)

Congratulations to the Hitesman family...!!!

My youngest daughter Dawn is due today, (Cash) but it looks like tomorrow evening...they will induce labor if she doesn't do it on her own.

I hope her experience is easier than ours and she's able to avoid any complications with the induction!

Amy had really had her heart set on doing things naturally (she did grow up on a farm after all and has witnessed plenty of non-human births first hand.) Heck she didn't even want to use any pain meds (though I suspect she would have changed her mind on that once the contractions started to hit!) So it was a real heartbreak for her to end up with a c-section instead. Thankfully a healthy happy baby seems to be a great cure to that particular form of heartbreak!

What a beautiful name! Congrats and reflect on your little blessing =D>

Jason,
There is no shame in a c-section.
Just think, without it, many mommas & babies wouldn't be alive today.
Heck, some women physically / geometrically cant birth a child naturally.

Very cool to see your pics and relive it all.
Sorry to hear of all the complications.
Congratulations to you and Amy!

Agreed 100%! She's by no means ashamed and I certainly didn't mean to make it sound that way. Just disappointed as anyone would be after spending 9 months making plans for something only to have those plans destroyed by something beyond your control in the last few minutes.

Congrats to the growing Hitesman family. There is no more Joy to be had than watching your little child grow and learn the ways of the world. It really opens your eyes. Enjoy.

Just wanted to share that Katie got to make her first trip out the desert this past weekend. It was only a short day trip out to plaster city to check out the Plaster Blaster rocket launch since our tent is falling apart and the RV still needs a few things done to it before it's next trip. But she had a great time:

She loved the bikes, quads, buggies, rc cars and planes, and whatever else wandered by. The rockets she enjoyed the smaller ones, and the larger ones she was OK with once we started doing the countdown and getting happy at the launch. If they didn't catch her off guard she was generally OK with them since we were well off the back of the camps behind the flightline.

Amy had a good time too and wants to go back for a full weekend next year with the Manx running as well. She also decided that we are going to get a dune pass this year and I do need to get the RV ready quickly :)

For now the only "rides" Katie gets are super slow in her carseat in the truck to get to camp. Until she's big enough for a forward facing carseat I'm very hesitant to take her for a ride even in her carseat...at least in any of my vehicles right now and their current suspensions. But she loves getting out of the house and getting to play around on a blanket outside now that the weather is nicer so it's time to start camping.
