Just released - Alot of the closure between Gecko and Patton Valley are being reopened for riding. These are some of the best dunes there.

Not sure when they will be making this official, but will keep all informed to the new maps and open areas.

Its about time !!!!!!!!! Good News for a change.

Anybody care to give a clue to these guys????

This is spinning from an Release that the AMA pubslished last week jumping the gun, pointing at Alt8 of the DRAMP and saying that the closures are openings. I was shocked when I saw this coming from the AMA, now the secondary spin is people posting this stuff on the web!

Same thread, 2 different posts

Just got off phone with Bill Jones from the ASA. Hes checking into exactly what was determined and when it will go into effect. The new RAMP doesnt go into effect until 2012 so it may not be until then, but hes gonna get back to me on details.

As soon as I hear exactly when and the new map, I will post it.

OK - Horses mouth. Just got off the phone, the RAMP that goes into effect in 2012 has those areas listed to reopen. I hope that the accident that happened out in Lucerne doesnt have an effect on the RAMP going into effect. The CBD people within hours of the accident in Lucerne have raised their ugly head again. And as of now theres a hold on offroad event/races on BLM land.

Again support all your offroad associations, as these are the people that defend us against organizations like the CBD.

Keep all posted to any news that comes to light.

Is this Dave guy that "duck" that claims he could walk into the oval office and get the dunes reopened with help of his extraterestial 3 eyed purple friends? If this is the same guy I gotta know WHY does anybody quote him? Or even take him seriously anymore? in the past this guy is a walking book of fiction in my opinion.

Posted on their site:

Dave, et, al

Mostly I’m just passing through. Like Bill Jones, I’m a former BOD member of the ASA. Below is an edited version of my comments to Dave from the ASA BBS. Yes, I toned it down. Some of my snarkyness is related to the frustration I have constantly dealing with fixing mis-information and/or the mis-informed. I will say thank you all for your support of the ASA, they (we) are fighting hard to get back the areas closed to us.

I will, however, respectfully ask you to quit misquoting Mr. Jones. While I don’t know exactly what was said, I can be fairly sure that he DID NOT STATE A SPECIFIC DATE for reopening the dunes.

I’m sure he said ‘MAY’, MIGHT, PROBABLY, POSSIBLY’ or something similar. There is absolutely NO guarantee as to when the new RAMP will go into effect and Bill knows this very well and is smart enough to properly discuss it with others. I have not seen what is posted on the AMA site, but I would suggest that it be scrutinized carefully as well. It should also say “MAY, MIGHT, PROBABLY, POSSIBLY or something similar. And we need to clarify that releasing the RAMP does NOT mean that the dunes are immediately reopened. So, if anyone says ‘The RAMP will be out by 2012’, they MAY be correct, but…see below:

Reopening the dunes in 2012 is a POSSIBLITY only. The RAMP first must be released by the BLM. There is no required time table for them to do that. At the San Diego meeting, BLM advised that after the DRAMP comment period, which just ended this month, there would be an estimated 3 to 9 months before the final RAMP comes out but they could take longer. It will then go through a public review period and will, most probably, be challenged in court by the CBD, the ASA or, quite possibly, BOTH orgs. It has to survive all court challenges, which, in my experience (and I’ve actually been around for a while) each court challenge takes about 12 months. There is also a good possibility of an appeal by the loser, especially if that loser is the CBD. If it doesn’t survive the court challenges, (i.e, the CBD, the ASA or both win) it’s possible that we get to start this 4 to 5 year process all over AGAIN.

So, IMO, while 2012, is a POSSIBLIY, it is, also, IMO, rather OPTIMISTIC.

Note: I have no official line (or unofficial line) to anyone, but, if I were a betting man, look for the RAMP to be released some time late June to September 2011, with court challenges beginning January to March 2012. Even if the RAMP is released earlier, look for most of 2012 to be consumed with court challenges.

Some will call me a pessimist. I consider myself a realist. I hope I’m wrong and will gladly eat all the crow anyone cares to serve if things open up sooner.

No, I really don't think so. Steve "Mr Duck" Keuel knows better.

These folks are just another group that passionatly want to ride out there. Their hearts are in the right place, they are just very poorly informed.

Its a virus! AMA gave it to Dune Guide, Razor Forums, various blogs and Dune Giude. Dune Guide gave it to Dune Central.

From what I read on the Duner Central was that they "may" open it with the new RAMP. A little premature though.

Has anyone yet contacted the AMA about this press release?

I did, and did get a response from the author. It was a non-committal in terms of a clarification being published...

Being the great cynic that I am i see this as a CBD covert operation of he said she said so that they can get the word far enough out there that some folks will take it as gospel and ride off in the closed areas and the CBD will get photos of tracks to present to the BLM to keep the areas closed!!
