Re: ALUMINUM RAIL CAR
It's been tried a few times. J&J built an all aluminum (I owned one back in the day) rail back in the 90's. It looked awesome, was light of course, but brittle. I was constantly having broken joints and rails welded. For a duning and offroading car, it just does not hold up. Now, if you want to build a drag car, that's a different story.
That's my input. Good luck with it!

Re: ALUMINUM RAIL CAR
Mazzone has made a number of aluminum cars as well.
Camped next to one at the cleanup a few years back (ok, more than a few but it still feels like it was just yesterday!) it was a drag car but he would dune it as best he could. Told us about wrecking on the track once and ending up with his head literally burried in sand. Can't say the lighter weight is really worth it IMHO.

Re: ALUMINUM RAIL CAR
I have a Alumi-craft car as well. Mine is around 2000 vintage/four seating/single shocks all around/subie powered/2D trans all the trans bells an whistles and I know how to move it through the sand as well. Harder with a full load of passengers.....
That can be a problem with G-outs/makes you slow. Two people in the front seats and bring it, whole different car......
