T-Maxx Rebuilt and Ready Again *See Pics

Post by Winston Cup » Tue Mar 25, 2003 11:35 pm

New motor, an 8 port this time, and also this time I've fab'ed a mount to support the end of the filter so I don't lose it to centrifical force again and sand another motor. I also did up a new Pro Line body for it (Guess what it looks like), upgraded all the axels and driveline to 2.5 hardware and added 2.5 RPM arms ( I prefer the plastic vs aluminum on most stuff) among some other odds and ends I fab'd up like the rear exhaust etc. All fresh and ready to thrash again.

It's like this. I wanted black arms but they only had purple, that gay lookin blue and the dyeable so purple was it. The chassis, same deal and the Hyper 8 port .21 only comes with a purple head, that's the way they do it, the 4 port .21 I destroyed came with a black head. 8 port = more hp so whadaya think I'm gonna pick. Now that it's together, the purples cool. Doesn't necessarily go with the earnhardt theme, but that ain't the only body I've got either. I got purple on my boat ( fullsize) and that I picked on purpose. Hey your wife digs it.

Once you have a .21 motor you'll wonder why you waited so long, the power is awesome for this size RC. Check that video. No such thing as an easy to tune nitro motor, that's why they make an electric version for those that don't have the patience to learn tunning, takes time. The tires actually work really well that way in the sand, loads the center of the tire and lifts em on top of the sand.

I am curious as to why you don't like the aluminum stuff? I'm currently doing some CNC programing for a guy who is starting to make componets out of aluminum. So far we have just done the front and rear bulkheads and he has gotten a lot of postive interest. Since I've been working so hard for him I was going to hit him up for a set for my T-Maxx......

BTW - It did come out nice Guy!!

That is so funny LoBuck... I got to pick the color this time and I have to tell you that once you see it in person, it looks better than in the pics. :D

Yes Guy I liked the truck, Now the purple is not my FAV, but it looks cool on those trucks. Everyone has there own color preference. Oh and don't tell Darrin, but our 2nd rail was going to be purple, but I didn't want what everyone else was doing at that time, so we went Blue..

As far as the a-arms, towers and hubs no I don't like aluminum. The aluminum stuff is considerably heavier and when you do hit something really hard, which is gonna happen, they do not give and return as easily, and when it's a hit hard enough to break say a plastic arm the aluminum bends anyway and are three times as much to replace. The RPM plastic arms are like 12.00 a set whereas I believe the aluminum arms run more like 30.00 a set or more. Aluminum being a little stronger tends to transfer the shock to things more important and harder to replace, like the bulkheads and chassis. The aluminum stuff got real popular until people realized these very same things, mostly the racers stayed away from the stuff. I felt a truck all built up with aluminum arms hubs diffs towers bulkheads etc and it looked cool but weighed a ton and when it hit something the whole truck got trashed and each item cost a bunch to replace. I'd rather have the arms be sacrificial. For the most part the plastic is plenty strong, lighter and cheaper than the aluminum. Now some items like the bulkheads your talking about and the diff housings might be a good idea, those tend to flex causing the ring and pinion to seperate and shear the teeth off under load.

So your a CNC programmer? That's cool. I have been looking into getting solidworks or something of that nature and going to school for it.

Let's put it this way, it never see's pavement like most people's R/C cars do, all it see's is dirt and once in a while sand. Most of the time I'll just blow it off with the compressor but every so often, like you see up top, I'll go through the whole thing. As I'm sure you know one of the biggest problems with nitro cars is the mess the unburnt fuel comming out of the exhaust makes all over the car, that's what makes it hard to clean. So this time I fabed a rear exhaust, like you see up top, to keep that from happening, now it's much easier to clean.

Jason thought the same thing of my quad.

You'd be amazed how hard you can thrash something and still have it last and in top notch condition if you just take the time to maintain it. It's called appreciating the hard earned money spent on something and spending the time to take care of it so it lasts.

If I went to that thing I'd open a whole new can of worms. I used to be into the RC thing a lot, about 15 years ago I guess. Quater scales, Sprint and Stadium trucks, one of which I still have with a bent frame tucked away, 10th scales, gas, electric etc. I don't even want to see all the new toys out there now. I saw this t-maxx when an employee of mine brought it in and thought finally they made something good for just general pounding that you could run virtually anywhere. I was really impressed with how well built it was so I bought one and the dang this is a blast. I just yank it off the shelf every so often and blast it around in my backyard or the fields next door. Of course I ended up going big with the horsepower and tricking out a few things, that's my nature and I can't help it, but I know you can understand why I don't even want to see all the new stuff. I got a plane I'm building and after that's done I may build a boat but I gotta keep it a casual hobbie. Nope nope nope don't even show it too me, I just gotta walk away. $$$$
