You were paying $20?!? I've been paying $25 for my toys. Still, even a doubling of fees is pretty dramatic. Better than doubling the auto registration, though

With SB742 I've asked where's the $$$$, I was under the impression the fee increase could wind up providing just over $25 Million for grants when I decided to support it. Now with State budget crisis I'm being told just be glad we're getting the $18 Million (maybe), overall as much as I hate it we are better off, just wondering if we just should of let it die all together...TJ

 Wow, what short memories we all have here.

You seem like you didn't know it was coming.

Remember our SB 742 discussion?

I guess we can have it again. I'll start...

Therein, I stated:
Woodglue wrote:As for where I sit on the rate hikes, with two green stickers and one red sticker in the garage, I'll take them with no problem.
Our present registration rates have been the same rates for at least a decade. So, to have a hike now, reflecting this kind of increase, is still less than we were paying way back when [relative to the cost of living index].
So, yes, I can endorse it.

Yes, our green sticker fees have increased from $25 to $50/every two years. The $25 increase goes specifically to the OHV Trust Fund, not to DMV, CHP or in-lieu.

Here's where the money goes:

• $33.00 for the OHV Trust Fund (previously only $8.00)
• $7.00 for the DMV
• $6.00 for the Highway Patrol
• $4.00 for in-lieu funds (County)

Last year, the legislation that the OHMVR Division is governed by had a makeover. You should have seen what the Environmentalists wanted to do with it!!! (The changes were written by two very liberal, urban legislators with no interest in protecting or expanding OHV recreation)

We'll see changes.....especially in the grant funding. And that horrid Commission has been stripped of it's powers! (In fact, the environmentalists sitting on the commission have resigned) What we had in the years past was an OHV Program that was more like a wilderness one allowing for very little OHV activity. Instead, we now have an OHV program that is balanced.

• Green/Red Sticker Registration Fee – The green/red sticker increases
from $25 to $50 every two years.
o Increased funding for the Grants and Cooperative Agreements
Program and the State Vehicular Recreation Areas.
o Helps meet growing needs for trail maintenance and development,
environmental protection, and enforcement resulting from the
continued increase in demand for OHV recreation.

No problem, I just wish I could redirect the demand for information more to-wards Division, ask far as asking me remember the words of Hillary Clinton: Be careful what you wish for...TJ

It was in a memo that got circulated from someone at the table, thought it was pretty much a know-en item, anyway if you insist I will look for it. Keep it mind I live in Conservative Orange County, my Legislators know me as a Budget hard liner, that would be the only reason I would support a fee incease...EVER. For us to get nothing from it puts me in a position, which is to say OK I supported a fee increase against my principles, WHERE'S THE MONEY...TJ

The governors budget still shows that the money for the OHV Grants program will be $26 million.

http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/pdf/Governors ... 0/3790.pdf

Someone was thinking ahead a few years ago and had the OHV funds put into a separate fund instead of the General Fund. That will make it more difficult for the legislature to borrow it. And with the provision in the Vehicle Code, any money borrowed must be returned within 2 years.

Thanks Brew, that will make life a bit less difficult when I face my Legislators next month, mine voted against it due to the fee increase, their hard line budgeter's. Again this was despite my formal support at that time at least for SB742, possibly not seeing the need for the increase, siting we should have took a harder look at the fuel tax study (I believe). I'll be looking forward to talking to them about their no vote personally, and will have a copy of the OHMVR audit on hand to discuss concerns SB742 did not address.

As far as Anderson's license plate deal, he stated at the last town hall meeting he just wanted it to be a stand up and be counted deal, so are they free? Don't know what the leadership has in mind for April 7 but I sure have a lot on my plate, what I think we all can agree on is there is no such thing as Government money, that the Eco's wont try and get their finger in...TJ

Let's keep to the topic. The discussions of other topics just confuses everyone then they won't come back in here.
