Right now there is not a sign up "booth" set for Mid-Way. If your group is interested in doing it I can put you in contact with the UDG. Let me know. :D

Tim,
I or maybe even my Wife & son and I would like to help out where we can. Manning a booth, or ???
We will be camped at Glamis W14 and something in that area would be best for us.
Please let me know what we can do.
Thanks,

In the South Dunes,

We will be cleaning up at Buttercup. Looks like a jacket weekend. Getting the Dunes cleaned up and having a good time doing it. Doesn't get any better than that.

I know that there will be sign up stations at Ogilby, Buttercup, Midway and two at Gordon's Well. Yuma Duners are doing the one at Buttercup. Mark Fulton and his friends will have a sign up station at Midway. SDORC - Scott Hillier and De Anza Search and Rescue - Jeff Green will have sign up stations at Dune Buggy Flats (Gordon's Well). Duners from Sierra Vista - Fred and Pam Bennett will be signing up people at Ogilby. They all will have T-shirts and trash bags until they run out.

There will be a lunch supplied by Weekend Warrior Trailers which will be served between 11:30 and 12:30 at Dune Buggy Flats in the area of Vendor Row for those who participated in the clean up.

People get a ticket for every bag of trash collected and turns it in at the area where lunch is being served for the raffle. The raffle will be from 12:30 until all items are given away.

Good turn out an great results for the Clean Up :!: Especially considering the cold and wind. It was pretty nasty, but made for some excellent dune runs.

BIG THANKS to everyone that came out and cleaned the dunes.

YumaDuners had a good time manning the Buttercup sign up station. Here's a few pics:

I didn't get any cleanup shots as I was too busy dealing with the table and raffle tickets at Buttercup...the cold kept some of our regulars away and it has harder than normal to find time to pick up a camera :(

But I see someone spotted my landlord at Glamis:

Not sure if you were referring to Mike [Woodglue] or Mike [CaptainCrab], but I'll answer too!

While Josh and I were at the Vendor Flats booth, his wife, my wife and my son were all waiting for us in the truck [didn't wan't to get out because it was cold]. So, we hung out there only for a little while, then took the momma's and babies back to camp. So, I missed the raffle. :(

Thanks Captain. I didn't realize you were also a "Mike" when I posted, as I was referring to Woody.

Riders clean up dunes
By GREG HOLT, Staff WriterSunday, January 14, 2007 1:13 AM PSTAs he tore up the dunes with his Suzuki ATV Saturday afternoon, Todd Ziereis stopped occasionally to pick up any trash he spotted. At Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, the weekend before Martin Luther King Day has been the occasion for a large clean-up event for a decade now.Ziereis, 31, said 40 friends and family members came with him from Levine, Ariz., to the dunes this weekend, which he said is one of the area’s busiest times of the year.“As far as terrain goes, there’s nothing better than riding in the dunes,” Ziereis said. “Unfortunately, you do see a lot of trash out there.”Cathy Kennerson, Chief Executive Officer of the El Centro Chamber of Commerce, said about 1,000 people participated in the clean-up, a relatively low turnout she blamed on the high winds and icy temperature on Saturday. She said riders were eager to help out and brought in bags of trash as well as box springs, mufflers, and car batteries.“It’s all part of a national Take Pride in America campaign, but we also want to make sure the dunes stay open to off-road vehicles,” Kennerson said. “It brings millions into the economy. They buy our gas and our food and they use our medical facilities.”Jason Kaza, a member of the Yuma Duners off-road club, said off-road enthusiasts are well-aware that other dune locations have been closed because of trash build-up and are eager to do their part to keep the dunes in Imperial County open for riding.“The off-road community is pretty good about policing themselves, but you’d be amazed at how much trash there is out there,” Kaza said.
Julie Krough, a member of the American Sand Association, an organization formed to keep dune locations in the Southwest open to off-road vehicles, was busy selling raffle tickets for a DeJong Sand Car Saturday afternoon. She said the proceeds from the raffle will go toward fighting a lawsuit brought against the Bureau of Land Management by the Tucson-based Center for Biological Diversity to close a part of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area because they say the presence of off-road vehicles threatens an endangered plant native to the area.“Part of the fundraising will pay for legal fees,” said Krough, who lives in Vista, Calif. “If there’s too much trash around they can shut the whole place down.”Imperial County Supervisor Wally Leimgruber, whose district includes the dune recreation area, said environmental groups overestimate the dangers of off-road vehicles.“They are concerned about the amount of visitors, but the area is large enough to accommodate these visitors,” said Leimgruber, adding that he has been riding off-road vehicles across the dunes since he was a child. “We’re trying to promote responsible use because this area helps our economy greatly.”

Coldest cleanup I can remember!

Post by Cathi »

Many 'thanks' to all who showed for the cleanup. :)
Workers as well. MAN IT WAS COLD!

Last years Dumont cleanup we had rain and cold..but this one was colder!

Great to see so many familiar faces doing what we all do best; take care of Glamis.

We cleaned up Olds. had 6 kids with me as well. Darn.. didn't remember the camera. ;(

Suspensions Unlimited is always involved in this as a sponsor and picking up trash. Proud to be there. I see my prizes in the photos too. :o I always like to donate things for the kids to win. Like that Motostik, helmet, kids dirbike toys, dvd's and the beenies came in handy this time! ha ha. Saw some folks put those things on right away.

I see my new car in the photo too! Thanks for posting those pix of the crowd at the North raffle!

Good Job Tim on all your efforts in this years cleanup. Wow.. was it cold.

See ya in the dunes~
