Yes, I know some will say, it's Fox. Chances are wouldn't see much of this kind of reporting from NBC,CBS,ABC,CNN or PBS.

Heck I just spent the evening learning how to get a bottle jack to work again. Lemme guess the liberal media will make sure that Obama lets everybody out of jail because hes a muslim and all those people are going to hunt down and kill Chukzilla unless he tells them where this bottle jack is.
See that right there!!! writing that Bull crap, was more fun than than reading some copied and pasted link to how somebody, or group did something stupid. Heck all I gotta do is stand out in front of my house for 5 minutes or go to the store and see things that get me angry. I don't see how some people around here not only like to read this stuff and let it fester in them , but they post links here looking for others to get all excited about it too. Its old. Post a stupid game, make fun of Chuk. or ANYTHING other than links to stuff no one here can do anything about until the next election.

Re: Need we be surprised?
This goes hand in hand with the recent changes being made to the Clean Water Act that will enable the control of any land that has water on it. Even puddles or areas of seasonal flooding.
It's funny (not funny "haha") and predictable that the likes of Sloppy would choose to ignore it completely and change the subject based only on the source. I hope he doesn't have any seasonal puddles or places that flood occasionally on his land because it could very well affect him if he does.
SourceIf you ride an ATV or other OHVs in the desert or other type of "playa lake", "mudflat" or "sandflat" your right to ride on public AND private land could be getting washed away in the name of The Clean Water Act.
According to a congressional bill, S787, "intrastate lakes, rivers, streams (including intermittent streams), mudflats, sandflats, wetlands, sloughs, prairie potholes, wet meadows, playa lakes, or natural ponds;". will be moved under federal jurisdiction and subject to regulation.
That's pretty much all the water except subterranean (well) water. The wordage in the original Clean Waters Act of 1972 for this bill was purposefully changed:
This bill goes to the Senate on October 15, 2009. From there it goes to the House, then to the POTUS to be signed into law. This is in addition to the federal take-over of the auto industry, the credit and banking industry, the bid to seize the health-care industry, and everything else our current administration is trying to control.by striking `navigable waters' each place it appears and inserting `waters of the United States'.

Re: Need we be surprised?
From one skinny long haired person to one fat long haired person; the idea that things like this don't bother you smacks of passiveness (or worse, agreement with it). That passiveness (IF that's what it is) is largely to blame for the downward direction this country is taking.Sloppyduner wrote:Rekd wrote: the likes of Sloppy would choose to ignore it completely and change the subject based only on the source. quote]

I can only guess, but I'd venture to say that you don't do much outside of volunteering your time to the ASA to prevent things like the massive land grabs and power grabs and economic grabs we're facing from our own government. That being said, what you do do will be moot in light of what we stand to lose in the next couple of years.
It's sad that you sit by and watch it happen all the while mocking those that would try to inform you.
And personally, I don't know if I believe that the reason you ignore it and/or change the subject is because you are "bored" with it.

What's in your sippy cup?

Re: Need we be surprised?
Soared into the sky with us watching from our parked cars. Enjoying a needed break from a hard morning of skiing. It added to atmosphere of fun as we all watched the free show. A crowd of skiers, boarders, pairagliders, enjoying the views, sun and laughs. Ice cool beer. Barbe-Qs going. Just another fun filled day a Mt. Rose Ski Resort, 11 miles from my doorstep. This year were skiing/shreading Squaw Valley Ski Resort 48 miles from our doorstep. The place is amazing.
Gee, got off topic a bit.
Yes I do try to bring attition to issues. I'm not a walking encyclopedia of off-road issues and related issues, like some, so I try to make imformation avalible to others.

I have to admit, that area is beautiful. I lived in Truckee for a year and never had time to have any fun, too busy working all summer and weekends were spent getting ready for winter, winter I spent plowing snow and I barely made enough money to live. It was beautiful, just too much work and too freakin' cold for me, so back to Orange I went.HSSC wrote:Here we are living the boring life. Now I'm giong to leave for some more boring stuff.

You know who liked Jack. Frank Sinatra, ( god bless his soul ) on the rocks in an English Highball glass. He sat at my bar, in China Seas Restrant at MGM turn into Bally's Casio in Reno Nevada. Had a guy watch me make the drinks for his table. I had my place and ( believe it or not, my mouth was shut, unless spoken to ). Frank did give me the nod as he left for chilling his glass before I filled it with Ice and free poured the Jack. We were never aloud to free pour but for Frank...............
I had a good night that night for tips. You could say part of the home I now live in has some Frank Sinatra in it. =D> =D> =D> $$$$$$$$$
Thanks Frank.

I saved my money, cut firewood in the summers, met my wonderful wife and built upon the lifestyle that I now enjoy through personal effort, without the government giving me a dime. I only asked for the chance to work for it.

I knew Frank like Jack. I know most "sophisticated" drinkers prefer Scotch, but to me, bourbon (Jack in particular) tastes better.HSSC wrote:You know who liked Jack. I like mine neat. No ice, no water, no cold glass, just pour a double in a highball glass and give it to me. Jack don't need no modifiers!

I worked for an excavating company in the summer. I drove dump truck, hauled equipment to job sites, ran a backhoe some, ran a chain saw a lot and made a whole $10 an hour with no benefits.
The winter was spent working for the county (before Truckee was incorporated) driving snow plows. During the month of January, I had only had 1 day off there was so much snow. I drove a Cat 988 and opened up the Old Donner Pass Road at night! Took me a week to do that, and that road doesn't even have guard rails. I made a whole $8.97 and hour and had no benefits with the exception of being paid for Christmas Day. I worked New Years Day as it wasn't a holiday.
Living in Truckee was a dead-end. Prospects of finding better paying work were nil. I spent what time I could looking for work in Reno and had zero luck. A friend back down here called and told me I had a job waiting if I'd get here. I'm here.
I've only been back up there once; my brother/sister-in-law lived in Juniper Hills and had 20 acres. We drove the moho up and parked in their yard for a week one Labor Day. They have since sold and moved to the Bay Area.
I'm glad I spent the time there, I still talk about it occassionaly, but I'd never move back up there. The cold sucks (I was outside shoveling snow at -22 degrees), snow sucks when you need to get out of the driveway, taking an hour to get to the grocery store because of snowpack sucked. Great place to vacation, but I would never live there again.

I grew up 'up there'. In Grass Valley, Ca to be exact. My dad used to call it 'Pine Cone Compensation'. I'm still in touch with some of my HS friends up there. For as bad as I thought it was when I lived there, it's a whole lot worse now!
Needless to say, I havn't looked back since I left.

Re: Need we be surprised?
Well, just wanted to update everyone on the latest of the boring side of life.
Just spent the last two weekend days of the month of March, 2010, skiing some of the steepest slopes Squaw Valley Ski Resort has to offer. Going from packed powder to spring snow in one run with my thirteen year old daughter hot on my tail. She is becoming quite the skier, never one to whine, she just gets er done. We are a team, grinding out the runs, racing to the lift for the last run of the day. A chance to relax a bit and work on techic as she will be on the ski team next year. She has my legs, pure power.
I'm a very proud father, she will be entering the honors program her freshman year. Hard work does pay off !!!!!

number one priority is raising your children and doing it right =D>
The real egalitarians are not the people who want to redistribute wealth to the poor, but those who want to extend to the poor the ability to create their own wealth, to lift themselves up, instead of trying to tear others down. Re: Need we be surprised?
Today 4-13-10 Squaw, Hogs Back. Spring skiing. More of the boring life.
Working her way down Hogs Back, perfect form, perfection, she's my girl.
After the steep, we race to the lift. Midweek, no crowds, 50+ MPH, on the flats to the Headwall lift. I win every time. Course I've got 30 years of this boring stuff ( skiing ) on her..............How long can I keep this pace up [-o<
Mid life is treating me good and I earned it.

OK, I've posted large files and then I deleted those files because I do not conform to the clubs standards, you have made me the victim, because I dare to speak my mind. =D> =D> =D>Washroad wrote:There is something in the Wide Open Sand forum about posting pics. Why we ride.
My daughter was 12 at the time of this pic. Her first trip on the Z-400. The look on her face tells the story.

This is Scotty, on my daughters ski team doing the tricks. Good kid. Assisted, me when I made a last second decision to go for the single line and the old man got tangled up in the netting, after losing my balance and kissing the snow. He was hanging at the lift for friends. Could of just kick it and laughed inside but chose to help. I was there the day of this vid. We all have our duties. We all take part, in the displacement of SNOW.

Re: Need we be surprised?
Some sad news from slopside as a fellow student at my daughters high school lost his life in an accident at the Mt. Rose Ski Resort.http://www.greenfieldreporter.com/view/ ... _Fatality/
The weather had taken a turn to the warm side Saturday night 1-15-16-11 and winter snow turned to mush. I skied one run on Sunday 1-16-11 and went home.
We went from winter conditions to late spring snow overnight. Spring snow is good, if it can freeze overnight. I could write a book about snow conditions..................
Students were doing their finals and getting out of school at 11.45 am . Lots of time to rip the white stuff, until the lifts close at four.
On the Slide Side, East facing, early sun would give you good snow but as the sun went over the hill, things would freeze up.
A good kid lost his life, doing the shred thing...............
Lesson learned, when on hard snow , keep your hard steel edges on.
RIPShred on..............................to a better place.

Re: Need we be surprised?
The little shreder gets out of school at 1:45 on Wednesdays and it has been perfect snow for ZOOMERS ON THE GROOMERS.............The snow is hard and it is still hard. Skinny skis rule. Some people call it ice...............I call it a licence for speed.
We reach speeds close to 70 miles per hour at the bottem of the runs and if there wasn't people in the way.....................
