Very cool Bob. I was wondering just yesterday when I saw your September 15 post in this thread.
I know it wont effect you, but your Jan 03 date made me recall the
Hwy 78 Road Closure which is scheduled for Jan 03 ~ approx Feb28, but hopefully only 4 weeks.
Plan ahead. Don't get stung by this one guys!

Yeah, the closure doesn't really inconvenience me, except that it FORCES me to get back to O.C. the same way as everyone else. I liked having the option, but I guess a mid week mid-day trip in on the 10/60 shouldn't be too bad [-o< Heck I should just be happy that I'll be at the dunes 4 days earlier than I had planned! And I get to check out an area that is new to me!

I have not camped up at Osborne in over a year in a Half! My favorite place -BTW... Not been able to get up there because of forcasted winds -last year/and already gone this year...

Tonight I find out my neighbor is going to Wash 12, with another younger couple that lives in neighborhood. Neighbor has Golf cart/quads/Rhino
Other guy has Jeep/quads

This is just a weekend alone for Cathy and I, no group, just the two of us... :P 8) :D

So... My question for you, should I be the kewl neighbor and go camp with him?
Or should I just cruise over Saturday Morn and check his camp out?

Cathy & I were going [dune ride to] check Washes 22-23-24-25 for prep for the long New Years stay....anyway Sat morn....

There is nothing wrong with Wash 12, however, I've been looking forward to this stay up at Osborne for a year ! Plus, Virgin dunes [the best anywhere] are 20 feet from camp! Literally 30 seconds away from camp, lie the best dunes at Glamis.... :?

What would you do... {I'm asking everyone except Jason H! :lol: }

So this means you're also 'good to go' with a ride to the other side of the playground too, right?

Anybody else wanto to join this ride on Dec29 from Glamis down to the South Dunes and back?

We are OFF to Glamis!

Keep it warm in here while I am gone :?

Tomorrow, I will wake with the sun reflecting off the tops of beautiful dunes...

Wish you all could step in side my head to marvel in the splender of the perfect morning....

Tomorrow when you are at work, stressing about what ever...

I will be stress free, breathing the fresh air of the ISDRA...
[along with that awesome rockin smell of Race Fuel!]

Have a nice day...

Although Woody was way ahead of this one by removing my trip plans from the list at the top earlier this week, he was on the money. We are out this weekend. No trip. :(

At least this gives me extra time to really plan for the end of the month. Also gives me some ammo for the warden on the trip to the other side of the playground. What do you think Wood?

Our Dune Trip report for Dec 1-2-3, 2006
High Temp for weekend was 94 degrees and low was 54.6...

Friday mornings rides were on mostly virgin, smooth dunes.

Then the crowds came and I watched the dunes get sliced up.

Saturday we were out duning all day…
Stopped by my neighbors camp [W14] around noon…
Checked out Washes 21 to 25
Found some new/old areas which enter from the far side.
Duned virgin from W25 all the way to Brawley Slide.
Saturday, evening I called my neighbor in W14, and told him to look up towards Osborne. He did and while on the phone I turned on my twin 500 watt Halogen lights on my trailer side. He started laughing… “That is so cool…Something so simple but so cool…”
He could see my trailer from 4 miles away light up! So he called me back and blew off a couple of mortars which we saw fine from our camp!
Later…Saturday night Cathy woke me to take down the Flag Pole… before it breaks again.
Wind was blowing, [on my wind sense machine] 22-25 with gusts to 30+
[Remember I was at Osborne-You expect wind]
Sunday morn the winds picked up a little, we duned over to Vendor’s and bought a couple of burritos and a tee shirt & a head sock.
The ride back to Osborne was again, on 100% Virgin wind blown sand.

You gotta love it!

Back again for next weekend.

OK… It may be the Christmas Season, however, it’s still Dune Season!

The dunes were almost perfect!

R. Bond...................Dec 08 ~ 17............"between Gecko and Roadrunner"
ramper123..............Dec 12 ~ 19...............ISDRA
OBSESSED..............Dec 14 ~ 17..............Osborne Overlook or Cement Flats
chuxdad..................Dec 15 ~ 17..............Gecko Rd or Gordons
We are up to bat... so to speak.

Heading out to Cement Flats in a couple of hours.

This is the best weekend of the year to go to the ISDRA!
Good weather [chance of rain on Sunday at home-so most likely wind at Glamis]
Dunes fresh from last weeks blow
Few duners [historically this is the least visitor use weekend of the dune season]

If you are going down to Glamis, stop by Cemtflats [Cement Flats] and say hello... Look for the Norwegian Flag on our pole.

Going back to back to back weekends is taking a toll on me, maybe I should just move to the area...

Sand... it's what we do...

It's the meaning of life.

At 10:43am, my cell phone rings and it was a call from none other than Cement Flats!
Steve tells me that it's absolutely dead out there, clean sand and NO BODY is there!!! He said that you could take 20 rigs the size of his and park them along the edge or Cement Flats and there would be enough room for them all.
He then reminds me that I'm stuck at work and I get to go home tonight to a honey-do list for tomorrows family christmas party.

No prob, you're going to be out there by yourself... like Steve was! Super cool, just don't forget to post a sing-songy novelous dune report when you return! Have fun!

Out of curiosity, why will you camping out so far? We camp out there too... but only when it's too crowded for us at W10. 12/22~12/27 shouldn't be bad at all eh? :?

I will be looking for someone to ride with the 22 - 25. I will get to Glamis the night of the 22nd and I have to be back at work on Tuesday. My g/f is going out of town and I have already had my family x-mas party. Dune Shredder is probobly coming out too late, but I will meet up with him on my last day.

I should have my new truck, but I dont know if the ToyHauler will be ready yet... I may have to sleep in the truck. Bakerklan, do you have room in camp?

Good Question,

When we first started making Glamis our Christmas get away, about 4 years ago, we camped in wash 12 the first year. It was all great until the day after XMas, filled up pretty quickly with HillyBilly Bob and his critters moving in and breathing down our necks. There was plenty of room elsewhere in the wash but, Noooooo! He wanted to park next us but such is life.

2nd and 3rd year we camped at Cement Flats with friends of ours , and though I prefer the washes, we had a good time but again noticed the pattern of real estate disappearing quickly day after XMas.

This year our camping friends have had a turn of events, beyond their control, and thus we'll be solo'ing it this year in the washes. I orginally thought 11 would be enjoyable but due to us being there thru the 27th we felt it would be less troublesome to camp further out and avoid the crowds.

Anyways, perhaps we'll see you pulling in when we're pulling out.

You're probably right. We'll be driving through Wash 22~23, on our way to Wash 23~24 at about 1:00pm on the 27th.
Honk and wave if you see me! I'll wonder all week long who that was, unless you have pretzel's in your nose! <--nice web site!

BakerKlan, I am heading out there this weekend to check the Sweany Road Route that we have been discussing. I have no one to ride with. They all have family stuff going on. Do you have room in camp for a truck and another rider? I dont think I will have my ToyHauler by then, looks like I will have to wait until January for it. I will get in either Friday night or Saturday after scouting out the suspected route. Planing on leaving Monday I think...

Sure! You're more than welcome to join us...Look for the Jayco Talon TH with the license plate "5 4 Sand"

More than likely we'll be in Wash 22 and expect to pull in around 9ish Friday evening

Glamis, here we come!!!

Spent the last two nights in the freezing garage washing the three quads, cleaning / lubing the chains, and cleaning the air-filters. I even put some new grips on my handlebars.

I still need to fix the headlight on my son's quad [still busted from when he ran into the back of my bike on the last trip]. Based on the last THREE TIMES [ ] I've done this, it's a 4 hour job. But I'm in pursuit of a short-cut tonight!

From there, clean and repack the trailer, load the truck, have Christmas at two different houses [130 miles apart  ], hook up the trailer, and depart on the morning of Dec27!!!! \:D/

Whew! #-o Like I said, Glamis here we come!!!

Of course :!: Jim is our ride leader (and a darn good one!)

I am also taking out my for-sale rail, so if you're interested in checking it out, come look for me.

Bryan, I'll be in your camp sometime to meet up with Jim. I'll be sure to find you for a 'hello'. Probably on the afternoon of 12/27.

I'll be heading home either the 29th or 30th as of right now, not sure about the rest of the club. I may also be the only one out there on the 26th now, so Mike, if you want, come and find me sooner, and we can see how much virgin sand we can find \:D/
