Looking for input on the 2010 Monster Ride?

Post by GlamisSandDuner »

Hey guys and gals, I am looking for input for the 2010 Monster Ride [-o< . From what we were kicking around, I believe the plan is to go to the south dunes this year. I am also looking for the date and time. If we go by previous years It should be on Friday, December 31, 2010. Meeting at Roadrunner around 9:00 ish putting us at Buttercup by around 10:00. Since all the South Duners are going to Ogilby these days, do we want to move it there, and meet at Pattons instead :-k :?: Do we want to move it to another day or even another trip, like Thanksgiving Friday or :-k :?: So lets hear the ideas and I will try to sort em out in the next few weeks so we can firm it up for next season. Thanks, GSD

For me, it's a lot easier to be out of camp for a whole day on a longer trip to glamis. So Thanksgiving (4 days long) might be tough to get out of camp for a whole day (25% of the trip duration).
I like it happening on the New Years trip.
We might see more participants on a Saturday ride than on a Friday ride, as some are arriving to the dunes for New Years weekend on Friday night (after having worked on Friday).
But, I with new years day being Saturday this time, I think NO ONE will be meeting in the morning. Personally, I was sicker than a dog All Day long new years day this year for some strange reason. It was all I could go to go out and put around with my son once that day, I certainly would've passed on a New Years day Monster ride!!
So, that said, I like your date of F:12/31/10.
And I like the trip to Ogilby too!
Going from Wash Road to Road Runner to Hwy 8 then over to Ogilby is a LOOOONG Ride.
I think I'll be leaving the 2-stroke in camp and taking momma's bike.

I was thinking the south duners could meet you guys at a predetermined time at the entrance to Patton Valley on Sand Hwy. I'll take you guys thru a set running over to a dune we call "G bowl" others call it "perfect bowl". G bowl is a great bowl where you can go top speed hit the bottom (experience a slight G force pushing on you) then scream up the other side. Good place to hang out for a few minutes. Then we could make the assault to our camp for lunch. After lunch we can run you back to sand highway.

Yeah they could run down washroad to Ogilby a lot shorter.

Oh, well, it would kill his paddle tires too.

In past years, our chase truck (i.e. Jons truck) used Wash Road. A little different now with the sand fence and gates and all, but still doable.

I like New Years weekend better too as Thanksgiving is really not an option for me due to family constraints.

If we do a south dunes ride, which sounds great to me, I still think the main group should start at Wash Rd. We'll make a stop at RR to pick up anyone on the west side, then head down sand highway. Hit Patton and G bowl, stop and scarf down some cow, and head back. I say do one longer ride as apposed to two half day rides...

For the 2007 Monster Ride, some of us met up over on Wash Road, then rode to FlagPole and met up with Glamisbound and DunePilot.
