Quad Paddle question?
I've run Skat Trak edges on my R for years and am need of buying new ones. After reading the post on the newer edges coming apart I am considering the SandSkat II's.
Anybody have anything to share with me on these tires? good? bad? life? etc.

I am pretty happy with the geckos all around. I hear alot of people not liking them on a big bore quad. I do alot of duning and don't spend a lot of time hill shooting or drag racing. If you run them at 2-3 lbs of air, they seem to hook up pretty well. Maybe not as well in a straight line as a hauler, but much easier to slide quickly around a witches eye while carving up the big bowls.

Too bad. Skate IIs are excellent for all around duning, I've got a pair that have 3-4 years on them, and they have held up fine. The Edges are great for drags and hills, and a little more speed, but they just don't last, especially when you run the washes near Patton or back side of the store.
Duners are the only real Dune-biologists.

I've run Sand Skat IIs on so many quads and been happy with them on everything, considering I'm not into hill-shooting or drag racing. They would work really well on your 400EX.

I have to say just the oposite is true I have run the skat track edge (same set of tires) for 6 seasons, been forced to run up the wash road from beyond 32 to 11 a few times. The edges held up great. My buddy's sand skate II's, brand new where all chewed up. So the following season he got new sand skates. Late nite break down (not our quads, friends rail)and we end up running the wash road to get back and yes one more pair of chewed up sand skates. My edges still look pretty good two years after he lost those 2 setsDesertDogs wrote:Too bad. I'm not saying your wrong, just what I have seen 1st hand. Now in the dunes I have heard that the skates hook up better, either way both are great Dune tires. Just my Nickles worth.

I've run them both along with others. I think the Skat Track or Sand Skates are both better than some of the cheaper ones like Kenda and GBC. I think they use a better quality rubber compound and the paddles seem to be a little taller. As usual, I think you get what you pay for.
