WELCOME ASA NEW PRESIDENT, SYLVIA BERMUDEZ

The American Sand Association (ASA) is proud to announce that Sylvia Bermudez has been elected President of the Board of Directors. She succeeds Casey Cordeiro, who will continue to serve as a valued member of ASA.
Sylvia grew up in the small town of Westmorland, in Imperial County, and developed an early connection to the dunes. She remembers childhood afternoons spent riding motorcycles and three-wheelers with her family at Superstition, Plaster City, and Ocotillo.
Today, Sylvia keeps that tradition alive, often enjoying rides at Ocotillo Wells, Superstition, Glamis, and Gordon Wells alongside family and friends. Her enthusiasm for dune recreation has been a steady presence throughout her life.
Sylvia joined ASA in the fall of 2022, inspired by her friend, Bob Ham, ASA Board member. Sylvia is motivated by her deep love for the dunes and her desire to help protect responsible recreation access. Drawing on her professional background and years of experience in local government, she works closely with fellow board members to preserve access for all dune enthusiasts while building strong relationships with key stakeholders throughout Imperial County and surrounding communities.
“I am honored and happy to assume the role of Board President for ASA,” Sylvia said. “We will continue to champion sand sports and protect access to our dunes for generations to come.”
Outgoing President Casey Cordeiro said, “I leave the ASA leadership in great hands with Sylvia as our new President, whose talents will continue to enhance the ASA mission.”
ASA looks forward to Sylvia’s leadership as the organization continues its mission of promoting responsible recreation, safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable access to California’s treasured sand dunes.
