RESTRICTED ACCESS NEAR BORDER WALL

ASA wants to make you aware of a recent development affecting federal lands along portions of the U.S.-Mexico border near the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) region.
The U.S. Navy has established National Defense Area 5 (NDA 5), also known as the Southern California–Imperial Valley National Defense Area, in support of military operations along the southern border. As part of these security measures, access restrictions are being implemented near the international border, including the installation of signage prohibiting entry within approximately 60 feet of the border wall. Riders should obey all posted signs and avoid entering restricted areas.
What This Means for ISDRA Visitors
Currently, the National Defense Area does not affect access to the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, including commonly used riding areas, camping areas, staging locations, or travel routes within ISDRA.
ASA is sharing this information so riders are aware of the new requirements and restrictions associated with the National Defense Area. ASA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if access conditions change.
NDA 5 Access Requirements
For complete access procedures and required forms, riders can review the Navy’s official NDA 5 information page:https://cnrsw.cnic.navy.mil/Installations/NAF-El-Centro/Operations-and-Management/National-Defense-Area-NDA-5/
The Navy has also designated NDA 5 as a No Drone Zone, prohibiting drone operations within the area. The airspace along the border is classified as an Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). Fines can be substantial for drone pilots violating this airspace.
